Flow enhancement of electrical fluctuations in polymer solutions and melts
We show that the origin of the enhanced electrical fluctuations under flow, observed over the last is years in polymer solutions, can be traced back to a dissipative cross coupling between the strain tensor (characterizing transient polymeric networks) and electric fields. Additional experiments to further test our picture are suggested.
متن کاملHigh-temperature tensile properties of a polymer intercalated/exfoliated cement
A polymer intercalated/exfoliated (PIE) cement is synthesized and its high-temperature tensile performance is characterized. Due to the reinforcing effect of the nanointerphase, the flexure strength of the PIE cement is higher than that of ordinary cements by more than an order of magnitude in a broad temperature range. The temperature at which the optimum mechanical properties are obtained is ...
متن کاملEnergy harvesting performance of piezoelectric ceramic and polymer nanowires.
Energy harvesting from ubiquitous ambient vibrations is attractive for autonomous small-power applications and thus considerable research is focused on piezoelectric materials as they permit direct inter-conversion of mechanical and electrical energy. Nanogenerators (NGs) based on piezoelectric nanowires are particularly attractive due to their sensitivity to small-scale vibrations and may poss...
متن کاملConcentration and energy fluctuations in a critical polymer mixture.
A semi-grand-canonical Monte Carlo algorithm is employed in conjunction with the bond fluctuation model to investigate the critical properties of an asymmetric binary (AB) polymer mixture. By applying the equal peak-weight criterion to the concentration distribution, the coexistence curve separating the A-rich and B-rich phases is identified as a function of temperature and chemical potential. ...
متن کاملDetermination of Tensile Strength and Crack Growth of a Typical Polymer Concrete Using Circular Disc Samples
Cracked and un-cracked Brazilian disc specimens subjected to diametral compression were used for conducting fracture toughness and tensile strength experiments on a polymer concrete (PC) material. The value of mode I fracture toughness (KIc) was determined from the center- cracked Brazilian disc and the indirect tensile strength (σt) was obtained from the un-cracked Brazilian disc specimen. The...
